Аннотация

A forced convective loop operating at low pressures, employing Freon-113 as test fluid was used to investigate the so-called even-odd effect on burnout using electrically-neated tubes in even (4 and 6) - and odd (3 and 5) - numbered clusters. The parameters varied in the experiments were the coolant mass velocity, subcooling, pressure and exit quality. Significant differences in burnout behaviour of the odd and even-numbered clusters were found. At high exit qualities the burnout flux was higher (by up to 70%) in the odd clusters and so was the corresponding burnout power. At low exit qualities higher burnout fluxes were found in the even clusters. From the experimental data correlating equations were developed for predicting burnout values for the two rod cluster geometries in three different flow regimes.
