THE EFFECTS OF ACOUSTIC VIBRATIONS ON THE COOLDOWN TIME OF BODIES IN CRYOGENIC LIQUIDS
Аннотация
The quantitative effects of acoustic vibrations on the cooldown rate of bodies from room temperature to liquid nitrogen or liquid helium temperature were investigated. The influence of frequency, acoustic intensity, Biot
number, and location of specimen with the respect to the sound transducer were determined. Extensive results in liquid nitrogen indicated there is a critical sound pressure level below which there was no effect and above
which there was a linear reduction in cooldown time. The results were correlated using the techniques of similitude. An attempt was made to verify the correlating equation using liquid helium as a coolant.
