Аннотация

The effect of free convection on internal forced flow, for Reynolds numbers between 670 and 3800 and Grashof numbers between 104 and 106, was experimentally investigated for air flowing in a 25.4 millimeter diameter, 3 meters long uniformly heated horizontal tube. For Reynolds numbers below 1200, the local heat transfer far from the entrance was below the pure forced flow prediction while for larger Reynolds numbers, the results were generally higher than the pure forced flow predictions. Significant peripheral temperature variations, as much as 7°C for a wall to bulk temperature difference of 28°C occurred for the upper range of Grashof numbers investigated.
