Аннотация

This paper describes a series of experiments using cine photographic techniques to measure bubble departure diameters, frequency, growth rates and incipience temperature differences for bubbles produced in pool boiling. Data are reported for four fluids and for a range of pressures. Comparisons are made between the experimental data and the predictions of a theoretical model in which bubble departure is assumed to occur when equilibrium is reached between the relevant static and dynamic forces acting on a bubble. Good agreement exists between the measured and predicted bubble break off diameters, although the experiments confirm suggestions that the behaviour of single cavities may be very different from that of members of a large group, such as occur on a real surface.
