Resumo

Nanofluids have been introduced as a competitive alternative to conventional heat transfer fluids and can be used in a wide range of applications, varying from big heat exchangers to microchannels. Although extensive work has been done on the nanofluids properties, there is still a lack of investigations into forced convection heat transfer involving nanofluids, particularly in the transitional flow regime. In this paper, the convective heat transfer of Alumina−water nanofluid (one step method) is studied. A uniformly heated rectangular channel has been experimentally investigated. The nanofluid with a volume concentration of 0.1 Vol. % was used, and the Reynolds number range of 200 to 5000 has been considered which includes the transition regime. Temperature and pressure drop have been measured for the evaluation of the heat transfer and pressure drop coefficients. The results of the experiments for pure water and the nanofluids are compared and discussed in details including the average Nusselt numbers, and friction coefficients.
