Resumo

In the present paper, a new algorithm is proposed for computing the temperature field of a plate-fin heat sink with transient heat sources. The heat fluxes of the heat sources are assumed to be prescribed, but they may vary arbitrarily as functions of location and time. The number and the shape of the heat sources can also be arbitrary. The solution method is based on Laplace transforming the temperature field, solution of an ordinary differential equation in the Laplace domain and numerical inversion of the Laplace transform. Conduction is modelled three-dimensionally in the base plate but only one-dimensionally in the fins. Moreover, a uniform heat transfer coefficient is assumed. However, the heat capacity is taken into account both in the base plate and in the fins. The results given by the algorithm are demonstrated with a simple numerical example. The possibility of generalising the present method for the case of variable heat transfer coefficient and two-dimensional conduction in the fins is also discussed.
