MICRODRILLING OF METALS WITH A NANO-SECOND PULSED BESSEL LASER BEAM
Resumo
Laser microdrilling in a metal foil with a thickness of 20 μm (stainless steel, copper) or 18 μM (aluminum) with a pulsed nano-second Bessel laser beam (wavelength: 532 nm) was carried out. Microdrilling without precise control of the work distance was shown to be possible since a Bessel beam has a deep focal depth. The diameter of a through hole thus formed was maintained at several μm when the work distance was changed within a range of several mm. Regardless of the type of metal used, a fine through-hole with a diameter of several μm was produced in a foil. However, the morphology of the processed surface was significantly different depending on the metal used. A through-hole in a stainless steel plate with a thickness of 100 μm was also produced and the shape of the hole was evaluated by observing a sectioned sample.
