HEAT TRANSFER IN THE DISTRIBUTORS OF PLATE-FIN HEAT EXCHANGERS
Resumo
The distributor regions of a plate-fin heat exchanger can represent a significant fraction of the available heat transfer area, however no calculation procedures are openly available for evaluating their contribution to heat transfer. In the first part of this paper a mathematical method for such calculations is developed, which incorporates the key features affecting distributor heat transfer, such as low fin density, high mass flux, and limited overlap with other streams. The method is then used to examine the heat transfer contribution of distributors in a number of typical exchangers based on actual industrial examples.
