Resumo

Generation of both high- and low-temperature level heat by a chemical heat pump (CHP) combined with exothermic hydration of CaO/endothermic dissociation of Ca(OH)2 and evaporation/condensation of water was studied. An attempt was made to improve the performance of the proposed chemical heat pump by applying passive type heat and mass transfer augmentation techniques. The effects of both the heat/mass transfer condition in the reactant bed and the evaporation/condensation condition on the heat-releasing/storing characteristics in temperature upgrading /refrigeration modes were studied experimentally and theoretically.
It was found that the heat-releasing/storing rates were improved by the heat transfer augmentation method with a blade-type fin in the reactant bed. The heat-storing rate was enhanced by changing the condensation condition. In the heat-storing step and the heat-releasing step on refrigeration mode, in which the CHP operates at low pressure-difference, the steam transfer rate in the reactant bed was found to affect considerably the overall reaction rate of CaO/Ca(OH)2.
