CLOSE-CONTACT AND NATURAL CONVECTIVE MELTING HEAT TRANSFER IN CAPSULES OF VARIOUS TYPE
Resumo
Close-contact melting heat transfer characteristics, including natural convection in the liquid region in a horizontal cylindrical and elliptic capsules with arbitrary aspect ratio, were studied theoretically. Special attention was focused on the flow pattern of natural convection in the liquid phase when the wall temperature was changed.
The Growth Ring Method(GRM) was used as a numerical tool adopted to handle the moving interface between the liquid and the solid regions. The computed isotherms, streamlines, equi-vorticity lines, local Nusselt number distributions, and stored heat fractions were clarified in detail. The method proposed in this paper is a simple and efficient numerical methodology applicable to the general multidimensional melting(or freezing) problems with natural convection in the liquid phase for arbitrary geometries, including a multiply-connected domain.
