TEMPERATURE-DISTRIBUTION ANALYSIS FOR VARIABLE-CONDUCTANCE MULTI-PIPE RADIATORS
Resumo
When several variable-conductance heat pipe condensers are thermally coupled to a single radiating panel in a satellite, the gas-loaded condensers interact via conduction. Under close spacing this conjugate heat transfer can significantly impact individual pipe performance, as well as the entire thermal control system. Under wide spacing the two-dimension temperature distribution in the panel becomes important, and one-dimensional models can introduce significant errors. Analysis applied here permits quantification of the noncondensable gas distribution, resulting in solutions for the temperature distribution in the panel and the operating condition of the pipes. The results show that under close spacing coupling can greatly magnify the effect of the noncondensable gas.
