Resumo

Reflux condensation inside a closed two-phase vertical thermosyphon is examined experimentally and analytically, with attention focused on the local heat transfer characteristics. Based on the detailed visual observation of the flow pattern of the liquid flow in the condenser, we take into account the effects of the following phenomena in the proposed theoretical model : One is the turbulence in the liquid film near the vapor-liquid interface which is caused by the dewdrop-like structure of the liquid surface and also by the vapor flow. This improves the heat transfer characteristics in the lower part of the condenser. The other is the deposition of droplets from the vapor core to the liquid film which results in the increase of the film thickness and therefore, deteriorates the heat transfer near the top end of the condenser. The estimated values agree well with the experimental data.
