INDUSTRIAL APPLICATION OF DROPWISE CONDENSATION
Resumo
A practical method of maintaining dropwise condensation of ammoniacal steam was found by preparing alloy in metallic surface layer. A new kind of alloy surface of copper was made by ion-plating and ion-beam combination technology. The elements chosen were Cr and N. Steady dropwise condensation of steam and ammoniacal steam was formed on the new surface. The characteristics of the alloy layer was analysed by using AES and AES-PRO.
The method of maintaining dropwise condensation was applied to an industrial condenser in a local power station. The condenser has 448 pieces of treated copper tubes of length 3300 mm and of diameter 16/14 mm. The condenser has been running satisfactorily since its installation in October of 1987.
