THERMAL DRAG AND THERMAL ROUNDABOUT FLOW IN CONVECTIVE PROBLEMS
Resumo
In this paper the influence of heating (or cooling) process on the behavior of the fluid flow is discussed with an emphasis on its physical mechanism. The investigation in the thermal drag phenomenon was conducted both analytically and experimently. Defining the thermal drag coefficient and dimensionless heating number, an approximate expression between them has been obtained based on the solution of the governing equations for 1−D, inviscid channe1 flow with simple heating. The dependence of the relative importance of the thermal drag and the friction drag on the dimensionless heating number is presented by virtue of the numerical solution of turbulent channel flows. A phenomenon of thermal roundabout flow is revealed and discussed. The heating effect on the external flow may be equivalent to the effect generated by an imaginary mass source. Finally, analysis shows that the thermal roundabout flow can affect the mixture of two jets and the motion of small particles within the fluid flow as well.
