Resumo

Heat transfer data are presented from a rig, using a scale model of the piston employed in a 670 m.m. bore Doxford marine diesel engine, and this data is compared with that obtained from tests on the full size engine.
Test variables include operating speed, heat flux, and coolant inlet temperature, using both oil and water as coolants. The rig results for two test sections correlate quite well on a basis of pipe heat transfer parameters. Correlation with the full size piston is not so good. "Cocktail Shaking" data, also presented, gives only fair agreement with published results.
