Resumo

The passive containment cooling system (PCCS) provides a long-term containment cooling function, which condenses decay heat steam and suppresses the containment vessel pressure without using any electrical devices. Because of the favorable heat removal performance confirmed throughout early stage experiments and analysis simulating design base event, the PCCS has been expected to work against severe accident. This paper deals with the PCCS heat transfer mechanism and summarizes test results to consolidate extended performance beyond design base event for the advanced light water reactor (ALWR) application.
