Effect of Thermocapillary Non-Linear Deformations on Heat Transfer and Breakdown of Falling Liquid Films

Resumo

An experimental research of heat transfer and breakdown of liquid film falling down a plate with 150×150 mm heater has been performed in the range of small Reynolds number, Re=1÷44. Dependence of the heater wall temperature and local heat flux on the streamwise coordinate has been obtained. Temperature distribution at the liquid film surface was studied with the use of infrared scanner. For a liquid film flowing down a vertical plate under the action of gravity, energy equation has been numerically solved with assumption of heat conduction in the heater and in the substrate. Rivulets have been revealed to form under action of thermocapillary forces at the area of two-dimensional and three-dimensional waves in a heated liquid film flow. The rivulets formation was found to have effect on the heat transfer coefficient in the bottom part of the heater.
