Resumo

Diffusion through a steady, uniform and incompressible gas stream flowing over a semi-infinite flat plate containing a large number of small, but finite concentration sources on its surface is considered. Due to the concentration difference between the sources and the ambient gas, mass is transported by convection and diffusion from each source into the main stream. Assuming that the mass transported from the plate does not disturb the bulk flow and that each source maintains a constant concentration while the rest of the plate is impermeable, the governing equations and boundary conditions are derived and are solved numerically by an ADI technique. Application of the results to transpiration from leaves is illustrated.
