Resumo

Heat transfer in a rectangular cavity, where fluid flow is driven by the combined effects of a moving wall and a thermally stable density stratification, is calculated. For Prandtl numbers Pr = O.Ol and 3.5, the Reynolds number was fixed at Re = 100, 500, and 1,000, and the mixed convection parameter was varied from 0 to 1. Height/width ratios of 1 and 2 are examined. Flow and temperature fields are obtained from numerical solution of the steady-state Navier-Stokes and energy equations by using SPALDING'S scheme /7/. Results show the flattening of the eddy by the stratification and the need of high Re, at low Pr, to destroy this effect. Also shown is the alteration of pure conduction heat transfer under the various effects.
