Resumo

The effects of channel width height, and orientation on flow boiling heat transfer and burnout have been investigated experimentally for flow of water in closed rectangular channels containing strip heater of constant width at one wall. The tests cover an inlet subcooling range of 3 to 42 °C and a mass velocity range of 1.25×103 kg/m2 s to 6.25×103 kg/ m2s. The test data which was obtained under atmospheric conditions, were correlated in terms of Reynolds number, Prandtl number, dimensionless wall superheat, dimensionless heat flux and the geometrical parameter. Experiments were performed with rectangular channels of two different heights with various inlet subcoolings and mass flow rates. Experiments were also done at four different heater positions, namely, horizontal flow with strip facing up, horizontal flow with strip facing down, vertical upflow, and vertical downflow. Wall heat flux and burnout have been obtained as a function of wall superheat at various values of mass velocity and inlet subcooling degree.
