Resumo

Free stream turbulence has an important effect on the local heat transfer coefficient around turbine blades, The prediction of this effect is attempted within the framework of the k-ε model of turbulence. Validation of the model with data for flat plate with imposed pressure gradients as well as turbine cascade data is examined. It is found that qualitatively, the model predicts the observed trends, though there-are significant differences between the data sets and the predictions. Somewhat better correlation can be obtained by numerical modification of the Reynolds number dependency of the model, With the suggested modification in the model, the predictions on the suction surface are encouraging and within about 30 per cent of the observed values.
