Resumo

The coupled heat and mass transfer during the film condensation of steam from a turbulent air-steam mixture is to be investigated. The investigations are carried out using a vertical pipe section. The Reynolds numbers of the flow lie between 2 600 and 60 000. To explain the interdependence of the momentum, energy and mass transfer not only heat and mass transfer rates but also profiles of the mean velocity and local turbulence intensity were measured using a Laser-Doppler anemometer. The numerical part of the investigation includes the solution of the appropriate conservation equations taking account of the condensate film and the turbulent properties of the flow. The investigation shows a good agreement between the experiments and the numerical predictions. The condensation leads particularly in the near wall region to a damping of the turbulence intensity and to a dislocation of the beginning of the relaminarisation to higher Reynolds numbers.
