Resumo

This paper introduces two useful new post-processors for temperature field calculation programs working with the finite element method (FEM). The first one enables the display of the heat fluxes at random locations, preferably at the Gauss points, considering their quantity and direction. This gives an improved insight into the heat conducting behaviour of complex structures, because the main paths of the heat flow are made visible. In four illustrative examples this new display method is compared with the traditional ones: the mountain-like temperature field performance where the temperature pattern is plotted in the third dimension over the projection of the structural net, and the iso-temperature contour lines plotting. The second post-processor, closely related to the first one, serves for an automatic determination of heat transmission coefficients or overall heat transfer coefficients. In cases of very complex shapes of the conducting parts where the traditional calculation method fails or becomes unprecise, the routine delivers quick and quite exact results, also regarding non-linearities.
