Resumo

The deposition of airborne and dust particles on the surfaces of a finned-tube is investigated experimentally. The tube is incorporated with an electric heater fixed axially inside the tube in order to raise the tube temperature and was placed in a wind tunnel through which air with suspended solid particles were passed. The collection efficiencies of the tube were determined at different temperature levels and particle sizes. It has been found that the finned tube collects particles with higher efficiencies when at low temperatures. The collection efficiency, in general, increases as the particle size increases. For particles of 8 µm diameter and more, no effect of temperature on the collection efficiency was observed. The effect of accumulation of particles deposited onto the tube surfaces on the total efficiency of the finned tube has been examined.
