WAVE REGIMES IN LAMINAR FLOW OF THIN LIQUID LAYER
Resumo
When a thin liquid film such as a condensate flows down a plate and becomes unstable, several distinct wave regimes appear. These are (i) fluid ridges, which are two-dimensional disturbances with wave crests parallel to the flow,(ii) roll waves, which are two-dimensional waves with wave crests normal to the flow direction, and (iii) dropwise instability. An analysis was presented by the authors in an earlier paper explaining the occurrence of fluid ridges in - an electric field. In this paper, all three wave regimes are examined theoretically and the results are compared with experimental observation.
