SPECTRAL CHARACTERISATION AND EVALUATION OF LIQUID BASED BEAM SPLITTERS FOR CPV/T SOLAR SYSTEMS
要約
Liquid selective absorption filter can be utilized to enhance performance of concentrating photovoltaic/thermal
(CPV/T) cogeneration systems by splitting solar spectrum into two wavelength bands: one for PV conversion
and the other one for thermal utilization. In this paper, the optical transmittance of five groups of low cost and
readily available liquid filters have been determined through a double optical path-length transmittance method.
The results show that all the liquid filters except for copper sulfate and Valvoline exhibit high transmittance in
the wavelength range of silicon CPV cell interest, whereas oil filters perform moderate absorption in the NIR
range. Then this paper presents both experimental and modeled results for the selected liquid filter placed
between a solar simulator and a silicon CPV cell. A merit function is introduced to determine if the liquid filter
would effectively convert sunlight into usable energy in CPV/T systems. The inorganic aqueous salts except
for copper salts, glycols, and Valvoline yield combined efficiencies increase of more than 20% compared to PV
alone. With Valvoline as the liquid selective absorption filter for CPV/T system, the thermal energy generated
by its absorption plays an important role in the combined energy output of the system.
