要約

Thermoacoustic refrigeration presents an attractive alternative to vapor compression systems since it is capable of operation at a large fraction of the Carnot Coefficient-of-Performance and works best using inert gases. Exploitation of this new heat pumping process requires special heat exchangers since the high pressure acoustically oscillating gas typically moves only a few millimeters before it reverses its direction twice per acoustic cycle. This paper presents a simple derivation of the convective heat transfer coefficient between an acoustically oscillating gas and a solid surface which is in excellent agreement with the classical Blasius-Pohlhausen analysis for steady flow. The fabrication of the heat exchangers used in the ThermoAcoustic Life Sciences Refrigerator (TALSR) is described and their performance is predicted.
