For periodically operating electronic equipments, using solid − liquid phase change cooling might be a promising alternative. Aiming at this possibility, we pursued an analytical solution for the melting heat transfer under natural convection controlled regime in a rectangular enclosure with discrete heating at constant temperature. Effects of wall conduction, heat source dimension on the melting process are discussed. Results would be useful to the thermal design of the cooling system.
