要約

A numerical study is presented for the flow and heat transfer characteristics of an unsteady fluid flow over a square sectioned cylinder. Flows at two Reynolds numbers, 250 and 1000, were investigated, with heat transfer included at the higher Reynolds number.
A finite-volume method, with a simplified second-order QUICK scheme, was used, and found to have adequate accuracy with satisfactory convergence characteristics.
The prediction of the isothermal flows is in good agreement with results of other investigators. The inf1uence of density variation on vortex shedding and heat transfer has been studied. It is found that density variation of the kind found in a combusting now increases the Strouhal number and decreases the Nusselt number. The heat transfer results are in reasonably good agreement with available empirically-correlated data. At the higher Reynolds number a bifurcation phenomenon was observed; it disappeared in the presence of a larger density variation in the flow field.
