要約

In any shell-and-tube heat exchanger there is an unavoidable clearance between the tube bundle and the shell wall. This clearance has a relatively low flow resistance and hence a relatively large proportion of the shell-side flow will pass through it, bypassing the tube bundle and thus avoiding the heat transfer surface. To counter this, sealing strips can be used to block such clearances and redirect fluid back into the tube bundle. Described in the present paper is an experimental investigation into pressure drop and flow distribution through a rectangular bundle of tubes with a bypass lane blocked by sealing strips. A number of bypass and sealing strip geometries were examined over a range of air flow rates. A simple method of predicting pressure drop with bypassing and sealing strips, based on an equivalent number of tube rows in pure cross-flow,is presented.
