要約

The aim of this paper is the discussion of the basic phenomena of boiling nucleation. The nucleation is primarily a process of void formation in the liquid i.e. the local energy fluctuation has to be intense enough to provoke vacancies in the molecular lattice structure of the liquid, on which bubble formation can occur. The energy required for triggering the formation of the vacancies is extremely high. A reduction of the energy required, which is equivalent to the reduction of the superheat to moderate values, can be affected by various parameters, for example forces of interaction between the liquid and solid interface, which can be influenced by the material of the solid surface and alloying additions to the liquid. For investigating these effects, experiments have been performed with differently prepared surfaces, either mechanically or chemically. The theoretical part is furthermore devoted to the discussion of the mechanism of nucleation in deep wall cavities.
