要約

The present study includes both theoretical and experimental investigations of upward buoyant flow in a vertical duct. Free convection in air, (Pr = 0.7), in an internally heated annular channel which is open at both ends is considered. The experimental data for the wall temperature distribution and local heat transfer coefficient are compared with the results of a numerical analysis of an idealised and laminar flow heat transfer model. Engineering correlations for the average Nusselt number, maximum wall temperature and flow rate are presented with the Rayleigh number as the independent variable. The Nusselt number is defined in terms of the difference between the wall temperature and the fluid inlet temperature. In the experiment, the maximum surface heat flux was 147 W/m2.
