THE EFFECTS OF PACKING MATERIAL, SIZE AND ARRANGEMENT ON THE PERFORMANCE OF THERMAL REGENERATORS
要約
The temperature swing of the process fluid leaving a thermal regenerator depends upon the 'available' packing heat capacity for a given fixed heat transfer area. This 'available' heat capacity and hence the temperature swing, is directly related to the packing material, size and arrangement. A designer must be aware of the possible reductions in temperature swing that can be achieved by manipulating materials, sizes and arrangements. This paper investigates the use of three packing materials: fireclay, alumina and silicon carbide, a range of brick sizes and the use of zoned regions in the design of a high temperature regenerator Computational studies, which allow for both convection and intraconduction effects, indicate that the cost and bulk weight of the design can be reduced by using zones of different sizes and materials with high 'available' heat capacity near the process outlet in questions, while maintaining the specified temperature swing.
