要約

Bubbles of trif1uorotrichloroethane vapor in the saturated liquid were shown to experience electrophoretic effects in the presence of uniform high-voltage electrostatic fields, being attracted by the positive electrode of an applied field. Quantitative determination of absolute bubble velocities was made by high-speed motion picture analysis. Velocities relative to the liquid were computed with due regard for prevalent liquid circulation. Forces of electrical attraction were established from a balance with buoyant and drag forces and ranged as high as 1.255 times those of buoyancy for a field strength of 4.43 Kv/cm. Boiling heat transfer rates from a face-down heated flat plate were improved by as much as 2:1 in a uniform electric field environment.
