要約

Natural convection through narrow vertical annuli has been studied in connection with the design of a gas-cooled nuclear reactor. Methods of restricting the heat convected through the annular gap were examined experimentally using carbon dioxide in a pressurised rig. These studies included a range of annular geometries and experimental conditions covering pressures up to 3.1 × 10 6 N/m2 and temperatures up to 675°C. Further work was carried out in a low temperature Perspex rig using water. The flow patterns are described and quantitative measurements made with the water rig related, by the use of non-dimensional groupings, to similar measurements made in the pressurised gas equipment.
