Résumé

The study concerns the effect of soot fractal parameters on the absorption properties in the small particle limit. Electrostatic approximation has been used to estimate the absorption characteristics. As the refractive index of soot is relatively high, the interaction between neighboring particles would be substantial and Rayleigh approximation is invalid. This means that the structure of the soot particle would influence the absorption characteristics. It is found that absorption of a compact soot is smaller than that of open structures. A correlation for absorption property of soot as a function of refractive index and fractal parameters has been developed. Effect of fractal structure decreases as the temperature increases due to lower refractive indices at short wavelengths. The enhancement of absorption coefficient compared to Rayleigh limit can be as high as 100% at room temperatures to 20% at high temperatures.
