Résumé

Enhancement of pool boiling heat transfer is a subject of great interest of researchers. This paper presents the experimental results of nucleate pool boiling heat transfer of water on untreated, treated, 100nm and 200nm of titanium oxide and silicon oxide thin film(TF) nanocoated surfaces at atmospheric pressure. The thin film nanocoated surfaces were prepared by e-beam evaporation system. Heat flux was varied from 50 to 145 W/cm2. The boiling heat transfer coefficient of thin film nanocoated surface is found superior having the maximum of 45 % and 60 % enhancement in heat transfer coefficient for 200 nm silicon oxide and titanium oxide TF surface compared to untreated surface respectively. The enhancement of heat transfer coefficient in thin film nanocoated surfaces was due to level of wettability improvement, capillary effect, better liquid spreading, and high density active nucleate site at the surface. The experimental data was compared with published data and found maximum ± 34.8 % deviations which is due to the different operating conditions, surface types, coating thickness, method of coating, etc. The maximum uncertainty of heat transfer coefficient was found within the acceptable limit i.e in the range of ±5% .
