NATURAL AND MIXED CONVECTION IN ROD ARRAYS
Résumé
Natural and mixed convection through rod-bundle geometries have been modelled considering symmetry sectors or subchannels. Both vertical and horizontal bundles have been
considered. Salient results are well corroborated by experiments. Whereas the buoyancy effects in a vertical
bundle can be summarised as supporting or opposing the axial flow, the effects cause secondary flows in the
horizontal configuration. Bundle average experimental friction factor values in forced convection are better
explained through a porous medium model. The porous medium parameters so derived also yield quantitative
corroborations of the flow through vertical bundles induced solely by buoyancy. Salient findings are reviewed in this paper.
