Résumé

A spectral numerical method using Chebyshev polynomial expansions for all dependent variables is presented for the computation of buoyancy induced flows in enclosures. Specifically, a collocation technique is used to solve the unsteady two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations written in vorticity-velocity variables. The method is applied to the problem of natural convection in a differentially heated square cavity. Results are presented for a Boussinesq fluid (Pr = 0.7) for Rayleigh numbers up to 107. Accurate solutions are obtained without the use of staggered grids.
