Résumé

Radiation transfer in shell-and-tube heat exchangers has rarely been analysed because of the complex geometry. Recently, research on high efficiency gas-to-gas heat exchangers exposed in the temperature range of more than 1000°C became necessary for the development of high temperature fuel cells.

Thermal effects of radiative heat transfer among tubes and shell are studied. Temperature distribution and heat flux of each tube and shell along the axis can be calculated from the heat balance equations considering radiation and convection. Some assumptions are necessary to calculate the view factors: the temperature is constant around each tube or shell, and the tube pitch is so short that a view factor of infinitely long parallel cylinders may be used.

The effect of tube number, arrangement of tube, tube-pitch/tube-diameter ratio and emissivity of surfaces are discussed.
