Résumé

This paper describes the experimental study of a convective turbulent flow created by a heat source in an opened cavity. Velocity and temperature measurements were performed within a lm high and 3m long cavity with a heat release varying between 20 and 60 kw. Results reveal the existence of scale factors involving the two dominant parameters, the heat rate and the cavity height. Several velocity (mean value and fluctuations) and temperature vertical profiles are given which show the influence of thermal stratification on the turbulence characteristics. A comparison is made with numerical results obtained using a classical 3D finite volume method.
