Résumé

The objective of this study is to establish an effective method to predict the heat transfer characteristics in combined convection of liquid Na on the shell side of an emergency cooler for the decay heat removal in liquid metal fast breeder reactors. For this purpose, we proposed in our previous paper the introduction of an inviscid flow model with vorticity, which has not been applied in this field.
The present study is made to confirm the validity of this flow model. We carry out an experiment of liquid Na in combined convection and compare the local and mean measured values with the analytical values derived from the model.
The results show that the model predicts the heat transfer characteristics in combined convection of liquid Na at an accuracy of practical use. This paper also shows the expected improvement of heat transfer characteristics through the positive utilization of combined convection.
