EFFECTIVE MEAN TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCE IN SEGMENTALLY BAFFLED SHELL AND TUBE HEAT EXCHANGERS
Résumé
Measurements were made on a segmentally baffled shell and tube heat exchanger both in countercurrent and cocurrent flow configuration under same conditions. The apparent overall heat transfer coefficients, evaluated in the usual manner with the logarithmic mean temperature difference, differ significantly for both configurations. These differences are due to simplifying assumptions made in the derivation of the mean temperature difference equations. An axial dispersion model for one shellside pass and an arbitrary number of tubeside passes is developed to describe this behaviour.
