Résumé

Mixed convection along vertical cylinders and needles with uniform wall temperature is analyzed for the entire mixed convection regime by employing a single buoyancy parameter Χ, ranging from 1 for pure forced convection to 0 for pure free convection, and a single curvature parameter Λ. A new finite difference scheme along with the cubic spline interpolation technique is used to solve the system of transformed conservation equations. This solution method removes the numerical difficulties associated with large values of the curvature parameter. Local Nusselt number results are presented for Prandtl numbers of 0.1, 0.7, 7, and 100 for 0 ≤ Χ ≤ 1 and 0 ≤ Λ ≤ 50. The local Nusselt number is found to depend only on Λ for needles with Λ > 4. Correlation equations for the mixed convection local Nusselt number are also given.
