Résumé

Dynamic contact angle and liquid film profile of a rivulet flowing down a vertical heated glass plate were measured by a color schlieren method. A film of liquid R-113 was supplied at the upper part of the glass plate and a rivulet formed in the middle by electrically heating two nickel lines (43 mm long and spaced 12.7 mm apart). The liquid film flow rate was varied from 0.003 to 0.01 kg/(s m), with heating rates up to 30 W/m. A rivulet was seen to move irregularly (snake) on the heated wall under the stimulus of ripples from the upper liquid film. Local contact angle was found to be large at lower convex parts of the rivulet. The dynamic contact angle increased in proportion to the heating rate. The measured wall temperature distribution agreed well with calculated results.
