Résumé

The paper assesses the level of detail required to model radiative heat transfer in a pulverized coal-fired furnace using spectral radiative properties of combustion gases and particles. For the gas mixture the radiative properties from wide and narrow band models are employed, and for particles the spectral complex index of refraction and size distribution data are used to predict the radiative properties from the Mie theory. The spectral properties are then employed in the two-dimensional version of third order spherical harmonics approximation of the radiative transfer equation. Spectral and total radiative heat flux distributions at the furnace walls are predicted.
