Résumé

A two-dimensional heated jet discharged at horizontal surface of a large water body was investigated experimentally.
The longitudinal variations of the width of jet and the time-averaged velocity and temperature at the jet surface are well correlated by a scaling law derived from the dimensional analysis of the governing equations and boundary conditions. The lateral profiles of both the time-averaged velocity and temperature show the similarity profiles.
Measurements of the longitudinal and lateral components of velocity fluctuation and temperature fluctuation were also made. The result indicates that the values of intensities of those turbulent fluctuations as well as the Reynolds stress and turbulent heat flux decrease with increasing buoyancy effect.
Both of the lateral profiles of the eddy diffusivities of momentum and heat normalized by the present scaling law are represented by single curves. Buoyancy has little effect on the turbulent Prandtl number.
