Résumé

Stroboscope visual observation synchronized with hot-wire turbulence measurement has been made in a turbulent free jet impinging normally on a flat plate by using a hydrogen bubble technique. Statistical analysis of turbulent properties has also been carried out in both the late-transition and impingement regions of the jet. It has been found that the large-scale structure of the impingement region becomes doubly-periodic for the optimal nozzle-to-plate spacing of impingement heat transfer due to the alternate impingement of fast- and slow-moving core fluids and the sway motion of jet axis.
