Résumé

A new method is proposed for evaluating heat transfer coefficients from single blow experimental data, which overcomes the deficiencies of previous methods. The experimental technique, data collection procedure and analysis method are derived from an analysis of the Anzelius-Schumann mathematical description of the process. The differential fluid enthalpy between the inlet and outlet of the packed bed is measured and related to the parameters of the model for both idealised step and exponential inlet forcing function. It is ideal for computer data logging and on-line analysis. The method covers the entire range of the dimensionless bed length values and can be easily extended for any inlet forcing function and other heat transfer mechanisms occurring within the system.
