FORCED CONVECTION HEAT TRANSFER IN ASYMMETRICALLY HEATED DUCTS OF RECTANGULAR CROSS-SECTION
Résumé
This paper describes an experimental investigation of heat transfer from one side of a duct of rectangular cross-section to an internally-flowing fluid. Data are reported for various values of Prandtl number, Reynolds number, cross-sectional aspect ratio and temperature difference. These data are not correlated adequately by existing pipe-flow equations such as the Sieder-Tate. A correlation was therefore developed for the data which should be of value to designers, particularly of liquid-fuel rocket-motor systems, which correlates the data to ± 10 per cent. Comparison with theoretical predictions for the extreme case of heat transfer between parallel plates shows a good agreement with the correlation.
